Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Why don't you have more items in stock?
A. I dye each skein myself, and I dye them one or two at a time -- never more. This makes my dyeing and handling process more time-consuming. I think my yarn is well worth waiting for, since each skein is dyed by me personally. I try to produce quality yarns and fibers as quickly as I can, but I will not sacrifice quality in order to produce them faster.
Q. Why do have two different kinds of labels?
A. I'm transitioning to a new logo and eventually all the skeins will feature it. In the meantime, some skeins still have the old style label on them, but out of concern for the environment, I've chosen not to replace them.
Q. I saw a yarn here once but now it is gone. Will you ever have it again?
A. Maybe, maybe not. I often pick up small batches of yarn and fibers, e.g., when a special buying opportunity presents itself, because I am trying out a new yarn or fiber, or because I purchase a fleece and have it processed into roving or yarn myself. If that's the case, a particular yarn may be a once-in-a-lifetime purchase. I am striving to develop a set of regular base yarns that I will have on an on-going basis, including Superwash Merino Classic, Wool-Nylon Tight Twist, Twist O'Silk, Flutter Laceweight, and more.
Q. Why don't you have set colorways?
A. I do have a few colorways that I repeat, but limiting myself to dyeing only a handful of set colors would stifle my creativity and rob me of the joy I find in playing with color.
Q. Do you take special orders?
A. Unfortunately, I do not.
Q. I am a famous knitting designer. Do you provide yarn support?
A. Please send me an email so we can discuss this further.
Q. I am a famous (or not-so-famous) handdyer. Will you tell me what base yarn(s) you use and where you buy them?
A. No.
Q. Do you sell your yarns wholesale?
A. Because I dye each skein or batch of fiber individually, it is not possible for me to do large-scale production and wholesaling, and I am not accepting any additional wholesale orders at this time.
Q. Can I buy Black Bunny yarns or fibers anywhere else?
A. Loop, a beautiful knitting shop in Center City Philadelphia, carries select BBF yarns, including unique base yarns produced in very small amounts. The only on-line source, other than the BBF website, is the wonderful Loopy Ewe, which currently carries Blue-Faced Leicester sock yarns, and will carry Superwash Merino Classic in fall 2009.
Q. You only sell hard copies of your patterns; can I buy a PDF version?
A. Yes! Patterns available on the BBF website can also be purchased in PDF form via my Ravelry store or at the lovely Patternfish website.
